the why leads to the how

April 12th, 2010

When the reason why is powerful enough, you find the strength to get the job done. When the reason why is clear enough, you develop discipline required to reach the goal.

When the reason why is meaningful enough, you gain access to the resources you need to make it happen. When the reason why is compelling enough, you have the persistence needed to see it through.

Whatever you undertake, it is essential to understand and connect to the reason why you’re doing it. With a strong enough and meaningful enough reason why, you will find a way there.

Though the obstacles may seem overwhelming, a compelling reason why will motivate you to get past them. Though the challenges may be enormous, a clear reason why will bring you the encouragement necessary to work through them.

Before you begin, ask yourself why. When the going gets rough, remind yourself why.

Know, understand, and connect to a meaningful reason why. And you’ll find a way to get it done.

ur choices impact ur life

April 6th, 2010

Choices impact our lives. We can choose to be miserable or happy. We cannot always choose our circumstances but we can choose how we shall react. Fortunately there are many decisions that can enrich your life.

Here are some choices you must not die without making:

1. Choose to like yourself. Enjoy being you. Never waste a moment wishing you were someone else. Picture yourself as a wonderful person. If someone does not like you, that is their problem.

2. Expect people to like you. Let Zig Ziglar’s “likeability factor” work for you. Zig says people like four things: kindness, optimism, a smile, and people who listen. Practice doing the things that people like and you will have many friends.

3. Be optimistic about the future. Pessimism shrinks life. Optimism enlarges it. Choose to expect the best. When bad things happen, face them with courage but get up every day believing good things are going to happen to you.

4. Live every day with enthusiasm. Pour yourself boldly into what you are doing. Enthusiasm produces the energy to dance, so dance until people start dancing with you.

5. Choose to learn something new every day. Explore the unknown. Exercise your brain. Continue growing until you gasp your last breath. There is so much to learn and old dogs really can learn new tricks.

6. Do not allow disappointment to grind you down. You will have disappointments so accept them. But they need not lead you into despair. Tell despair it is not welcome in your life. You can choose to make your disappointments temporary.

7. Treasure your relationships more than your stuff. People are more important than things. Be content with what you have. If you have anything you love more than your family and friends, give it away. Things cannot hold your hand when you are hurting.

8. Choose not to worry. Worry will kill you. Worry never solves a problem. Worry is a thief; it will rob you of joy, peace, health, and contentment. Put your worries in a jar and think about them only once a week – every Thursday at 2:00 o’clock.

9. Laugh a lot. Laughter is healthy. Life without humor is boring. If you wake up one morning and can’t think of anything funny to laugh about, look in the mirror. What you see staring back at you is bound to make you grin. And don’t ever waste a grin without adding laughter to it.

10. Choose to be understanding of the mistakes other people make. You make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Give other people a break. That is doing for others what you need for them to do for you. Life would be impossible without understanding.

11. Tell the people you love the most that you love them. Speak the words, “I love you,” to those dearest to you. You will be dead one day so while you are alive, make your love known. Your love is your most precious gift so give it while it is day.

What NOT To Do In Conflict by Zoe Routh

April 6th, 2010

Since I can be a hot-head every know and then, I really appreciated this article and wanted to share… written by Zoe Routh (her bio is at the bottom)
_____________________________________

Here’s what NOT to do:

1. Do not let your emotions speak for you. I was severely peeved at this point; had I let rip with what was screaming in my head, all the others would have heard were my feelings, red and raw. Plus they would be distracted by wiping the spittle from their eye.

The thing to do at this point is to feel the feelings fully, on my own, without vomiting these in a messy explosion. Once I’d let the storm dissipate, I could look more rationally at what the issue was, and how I’d like to present my side of the argument.

2. Resist the urge to want to win the war then and there. Having been told to get back in my box and then patronised with a deferential pat on the knee, I was ripe for a fight. However I am quite certain had I insisted on crossing swords, then I would have come off the worst – losing both my dignity and perhaps the esteem of my peers.

Taking the long view on the issue is far more effective than wanting to score points in a tit for tat battle of semantics. Knowing the ultimate outcome I wanted – to make effective long lasting change to an educational program – was far more important than arguing over the effectiveness of past programs. You can’t change other people’s view of the past; you are better off shaping a compelling vision of the future and inviting them to join you.

3.Don’t dismiss other people’s opinions because they’ve pi**ed you off. I may have been insulted and irritated, but this does not mean the others did not have a valid opinion. Taking a step back and asking, “Is there anything I can learn from this?”

As it turns out I had actually missed a key strategic point my colleague was making and that I agreed with. I was very glad not to have had pressed my argument more forcefully, only to realise later I had missed the point. Phew!

4. Mind your language. This is an obvious one – avoid swearing or insulting your peers. Here’s a less obvious one – be careful how you express your point of view. I have a tendency to use colourful, vivid language to make a point. I think this is my Canadian background seeping through. However, other people may not appreciate being told they ‘need a fire lit under their a**’ when a simple phrase like, ‘focused motivation’ would be more appropriate. Ahem.

5. Don’t forget – you’re all on the same team and ultimately want the same outcome. I heard Chris Howard, personal development guru, describe this as ‘chunking up’ an argument until you get to the place where you realise you want the same thing. Then you can work down again around the issue where the differences come up, seeking common ground and a compromise. This can help take the sting out of disagreement and reassert respect.

Lastly, the basic common denominator is about respect. No matter if I was patronised, denigrated, or dismissed, I can still be a leader and respect my colleague, agreeing to disagree, and conceding our differences.

I can always take out my frustration in the gym. It’s hard to be angry when you’re lathered in a pool of sweat on the step machine.

With love and appreciation.

simple spiritual words

April 6th, 2010

Rabbi Shmuley offers his advice on how to be happy without really trying.

Click here to hear the radio interview – great advice

  • Stop focusing on your happiness. Focus instead on whether your life is full, rewarding and meaningful, Rabbi Shmuley says.
  • Surround yourself with a structure of selflessness. Find joy in a life of service, he says. “Giving your love to people and focusing on others will naturally bring happiness into your life,” he says. “Foster creativity, promote teamwork and mentor others—rewards and promotions will come along in due time.”
  • Bring spirituality into your daily life. Try meditating, attending church or praying, Rabbi Shmuley says. Spirituality doesn’t always have to do with religion, he says.
  • Spend more time “being” than “doing.” “A great way to do this is spending time with your kids playing and goofing around and just enjoying spending time together,” he says.
  • Laugh at yourself a little. “Try not to be critical of yourself, and celebrate your everyday successes,” Rabbi Shmuley says.

Today’s Shmuleyism:
“Happiness can never be a goal in life—it is the natural byproduct of a life full of purpose and meaning.”

Good Substance vs. Good Hype

April 6th, 2010

I teach and train women how to build their on-line strategy and a significant part of my training is how to stay organized and on-task. My clients might moan and groan, but they are gathering all of the proper tools and preparing the soil, BEFORE planting seeds. I do not overwhelm my clients because a confused mind is just that – CONFUSED!! Not productive.

There are other “coaches” online that strive to keep their clients confused so they keep coming back for more. Plus those gurus convince you to jump to the harvest when you haven’t even put your gardening shoes on yet!

Seriously, you only need two types of training! If everyone followed this advice, I would dismantle the “guru’s” single handed. But for those striving for success, it pains me to see you spending so much on unnecessary training. If it sounds too good to be true – IT IS! Look for GOOD product substance – not product hype!

#1 training – Basics
Building your online strategy the CORRECT way. You want a professional image. Women are great at building relationships and helping others so this should be right up our alley! Build your foundation first – don’t get sucked into an easy-money type of system – they DON’T exist!

#2 training – Maintenance
The ultimate “maintenance” system would be on-going information like a newsletter or webinar service. The reason you want an on-going system is because technology is constantly morphing and you won’t have time to learn everything new.

Again – there is no get rich quick type of system. It all takes hard work and dedication and a couple good mentors.

Mind your Mind – Stay in the Game

April 6th, 2010

When you set out to market online, you are going to play in a very equalized pool. Everybody goes to the same internet. Everybody gets the same Google, the same Facebook, the same Squidoo. Any two people can find the same forums and the same article directories. At any given time there are hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world that can make you a success: potential customers, mentors, and business partners. It is all there. You just have to find it or use it correctly.

Yet 99% of all online businesses fail. In spite of having little or no start up costs, in spite of having little or no overhead, the businesses do not turn out the sorts of results that people had hoped for, and so they give up. They go on to something else. They decide it doesn’t work. They go out skeptical and they leave certain: certain that only scammers and the very lucky make money from home on the internet.

Yet there are hundreds of thousands of people who are making money on the internet, making good money. They follow high ethical standards. They provide real products of real value. They build genuine friendships and partnerships. They live the kinds of lives they want to live.

If you believe in yourself and what you are doing, you won’t throw in the towel when traffic to your site isn’t what you’d envisioned. You’ll figure out how to make it better. You’ll learn what works and you’ll apply what works. You’ll do what you love and love what you’re doing because that is what you set out to do. You’ll constantly be thinking hey, I’m as capable as the next woman, if she could pick up the skills so can I. (Trust me, if I could figure this out – you can!!)

Set your mind to the future. Marketing your business on-line is the future. It does work. Don’t let your mind tell you differently.

Social Media cannot be Ignored

FREE Facebook webinar – limited time

March 18th, 2010

I have released the 4th session of my Get-on-theWeb Webinar series for FREE download, but only for a limited time. An hour and a half training on How to use Facebook for your MLM business the RIGHT way. Don’t be a cheeseball on-line…do it with style.

How Gurus Waste Network Marketer’s Time & Money

March 12th, 2010

This concept is very hard to teach. First of all, it is very easy to get sucked into the Social Media platforms and focus WAY too much on your On-Line strategy to begin with but throw in some “trainers” who tell you they have an easier way and you will be spinning circles & your bank account will be drained!

I teach and train women how to build their on-line strategy, but a big part of that training is how to stay organized and on-task. My passion is giving women in Network Marketing only the information they need to SUCCEED. I do not overwhelm my clients because a confused mind is just that – CONFUSED!! Not productive.

Here the #1 reason why you will waste time AND MONEY when you start marketing you MLM business online:

Internet Gurus. Some are good – most are up to nothing but taking your money & wasting your precious time. Once you start working on-line it is inevitable that you will run into these people called “gurus”. These are the guys that sell “systems” and each one is better and bigger than the next. They are MASTERS at psychology-selling. Careful – its a trap.

We have all fallen for this one time or another. When the gurus promise you fast easy results it is hard to resist. RESIST RESIST RESIST. Focus on one task at a time.

Currently,
As a MLM professional you should start with these 5 steps before looking at other ways to grow on-line:

  • interactive profiles (groups) on the big 3 Social Media platforms
  • plus submitting sites to Digg and StumbleUpon
  • plus blogging
  • plus pulling interested target market leads into your autoresponder programs
  • plus have a 12 month content and income funnel strategy

If you have not built the foundation of your Social Media strategy: YOU DO NOT NEED ANY MORE SYSTEMS!

Gurus will distract you from your goal. Focus on marketing your MLM business on-line the RIGHT way. Yes, you may need to buy some training to learn how to do this correctly, professionally and effectively – but you do not need one new system after the other.

In my GreenThumbMLM Get-on-theWeb Webinar Series, I stress that it is not wise to go at the daunting tasks of researching, strategizing and implementing your on-line strategy alone. So pick a couple mentors who you KNOW LIKE AND TRUST and let them help you. If you get honest, professional step by step training – it will be worth every penny because you are FOCUSED on your #1 goal – taking you MLM business to the top of your pay plan!

If you are just beginning to market your MLM business on-line remember that content marketing is the way to go and you must have a 12 month strategy. Don’t get distracted by the gurus who will try to convince you are doing everything wrong, just so you buy their product. Stay focused on your goal.

Naturally, I’ll start with some inspiration

The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a
green thing that stands in the way.  Some see Nature all ridicule and
deformity, and some scarce see Nature at all.  But to the eyes of the
man of imagination, Nature is Imagination itself.

-  William Blake, 1799, The Letters

How do you Visualize Your Life?

Do you know what the definition of insanity is?

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time. If you want an opposite result you must do something completely opposite than your actions in the past. As simple as this sounds, very few people can actually make this change because they cannot visualize their life any different than they way it is now.

Visualizing…. What does it have to do with your home based business? EVERYTHING! As long as I have been training women in network marketing, I know that if she does not have a strong vision she will struggle understanding even the basic business principles, much less performing. People are used to being in an environment where they have little choice. Go to work, report to a boss, be told what to do for 9 hours, come home and veg out in front of the TV. The typical corporate environment is not ideal for growing and expanding dreams and goals. Most people lose any hope of changing their lives because they feel stuck and controlled. As in nature, a palm tree will not grow in the arctic. Unfortunately, many lost souls imagine winning the lottery as their only chance for change! Guess what ladies? It ain’t gonna happen! Take control now!

The Network Marketing industry is the perfect environment to nurture dreams. You should congratulate yourself for choosing this industry. Now you can dream big because you are a part of an industry that you control. You cultivate your own garden! Network marketing is an environment where hopes and dreams can be nurtured into reality.

Visualization means 100 different things to 100 different people.
But the only meaning that should be clear to you, is YOURS. Almost all people who are attracted to network marketing have a similar trait: they have a BIG vision. Actually, let me rephrase… SUCCESSFUL network marketers have a big vision. If you have a weak vision, or have no vision what so ever, you will burn out with the everyday frustrations and challenges that MLM brings your way. Before you can move your business to the next level, you have to be able to do three things: create your future in your mind, tell others about your vision and act as if it is absolutely possible.

Close your eyes and imagine a large movie screen. What do you want to see play out? You are the director of your own movie. How can you imagine your life changing for the better? Who do you want to help, inspire or influence? These are deep questions that are extremely personal to the individual.

One way I encourage my down line to grow their personal vision is to study the following seven factors:

  • The Family Factor
  • The Friend Factor
  • The Faith Factor
  • The Financial Factor
  • The Fun Factor
  • The Fund Raising Factor
  • The Future Factor

So much of network marketing has to do with the correct mind-set. Take some quiet time and write down where you see yourself in the present and where you see yourself in 1 year, then 3 years, then 5 years. Use your imagination! There are no limits to what you can visualize.

Now comes the hard part…you must share your vision with those you love. The more you communicate and focus on these words, the more intention you place behind your thoughts.  Not only will this give you a sense of accountability, you will have support from those who love you. And if anyone doesn’t support you, well… I put them in my “I’ll show you” pocket. Do not let those dream stealers take away your power!

Lastly, you must act as if your vision will absolutely come true – not one bit of doubt! A suggestion is to keep a dream board – something that you look at every morning when you wake up and the last thing you look at before you go to sleep. Your brain registers images as “real”, so on the days that you are struggling to keep your faith – talk to a supportive friend, look at your dream board and say some simple affirmations.
A vision in your head is your daydream.
A vision communicated to other people is your goal.
A vision acted upon is your destiny.

Clear cut goals, crystal clear vision and the knowledge to execute professional sales & sponsoring skills is the receipt for success.

“Tilling the Soil – Preparing Your Business”

Patience is the Key to Success

March 5th, 2010

The natural process of building relationships is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you can learn in the network marketing business. Just because your product is good, your company reputable & your compensation plan solid, it won’t mean a thing if you can’t follow the natural process of building clients and a sales team. You will fail 100% of the time. Just like planting a seed then skipping the watering step of the process – it will fail to grow 100% of the time.

You will not receive immediate success. This is true for off-line sales and on-line sales. Customers and prospects are not going to buy, much less start a home-based business with a complete stranger on-line. It won’t happen.

So set your mind to this frequency: “My on-line marketing strategy is for finding and keeping interested leads so I can eventually offer my products/opportunity once they know, like and trust me.”

Have a clear understanding of what the Internet can do for your MLM business. The Natural Sales Process takes patience, persistence and passion. People need to “buy” you before they buy a product or opportunity. You will need to put in consistent effort and over time, as you build more and more relationships, you will start picking up the pace and soon it will begin to snowball!

How I Got Started…

March 5th, 2010

I took my personal MLM business on-line less than a year ago. When I first started researching the how’s, what’s and why’s of Internet marketing (because I knew VERY LITTLE) I was overwhelmed with the amount of information that is out there. It felt like I had another full-time job just sorting through websites, e-books, webinars, teleconferences, blogs, etc.

Finally I came across a guy named Mike Dillard and he made it very clear: If you are not marketing your MLM business on-line, you are spinning your wheels and will not be competitive in the future. So, I started there. (click here if you want to see Mike’s sales page for the 1st training I bought from him which is very reasonably priced & I do recommend this particular product to help explain the concept of internet marketing)

I did buy Mike’s Magnetic Sponsoring training and began to understand the fundamentals of this foreign type of marketing. Magnetic Sponsoring has been helpful – I want to give kudos where it is deserved. I have never felt like Mike or anyone at Magnetic Sponsoring was trying to give me the bait and switch. Because of MS’s straightforward approach, I joined a webinar series (that was much more expensive) to learn the step-by-step system. (I do not recommend the more expensive trainings through Magnetic Sponsoring (MS) and I’ll tell you why below).

This is where my concept of GreenThumbMLM started to grow. The webinar training from MS was just ho-hum. I learned quite a bit, but had to do A LOT of extra research to figure out what the heck they were talking about! I started to visualize how someone may start this new system and then abruptly quit because of technical frustration. Me, on the other hand, am stubborn and determined to a fault, so I forged ahead taking it on as a challenge and willing to make mistakes along the way. There has to be an easier way! What was missing?  The BASICS.

Thinking of all the women I know in MLM, I began to feel a pull in the direction of training this on-line system myself. I had a clear picture of breaking the steps into “paint-by-numbers”; explaining all the basics so that even a computer challenged person will be successful with my system.

Now, let’s be clear, I am not creating your entire on-line strategy for you. You must learn and understand the basics and do your due-diligence (homework & research) before launching a business plan. And I will help you to “gather the tools” & “prepare the soil” BEFORE planting seeds.

Being a seasoned network marketer myself, I sympathize with how hard it is to rely on your warm market, to waste time and energy on people who are not committed, to sit for hours at dead trade shows, to organize and conduct events, to give in-home presentations, to book your calendar full of un-interested prospects. Wouldn’t the off-line marketing process be easier if you had an unending pipeline of new prospects knocking on your door? We all need more LEADS!

MLM still works in the traditional “off-line” method, but for most networkers it works at a snails pace. Think about the mass amount of people researching and seeking certain products on-line. What if you had a TARGET market that you sent email campaigns? Not just random people like your son’s 2nd grade teacher, the soccer coach, raffle entries, your hairstylist and your neighbor…. no, I mean people who are really interested in what you have to say?

With that concept in mind I started by trimming the fat off my current email list. I would rather have 30 interested people than 300 uninterested people. Nothing is more discouraging than sending a great product promotion via email and then getting no response. I mean CRICKETS!!

Now, I am having valuable dialog with clients and prospects and I feel like the pace has picked up significantly. In addition, with the help of my on-line efforts, I have added over 300 people to my “list”. These are people who chose to be on my list – remember, not just randoms. I am building a list of people who WANT my emails – what a concept, huh?

WHA-LA, GreenThumbMLM was born.

Network Marketing will always be a relationship building business. But if you do not start building relationships on-line you will be left in the dust. So, let’s get started – from the VERY beginning – and Get-U-on-theWeb!

Sincerely,

Sarah Wood

Naturally, I’ll start with some inspiration

“When you look at a peony, you first see the whole flower, its color and shape. As you keep looking, you see the petals and veins and stamens and pistils.  When you look more closely still, you see the segments and shading in the petals, until you begin to feel the vastness of those details.  To see the vastness by looking at one thing in its details is to see its sacred connection to space and to all other things.”
-  Jeremy Haywood, A Guide to the Sacred World of Shamabhala Warriorship

Success is in the Details

A main reason MLM gets a bad rap is because of pushy people.

I can remember one night I received a phone call from a friend of mine who I had worked with more than 7 years prior. I was cleaning up the dinner dishes when the phone rang and I looked at the caller id.  I thought to myself, “Wow, I haven’t talked to Casey in a long time. What a surprise.” After I said a cheery hello and a “how nice to hear from you” I quickly realized that Casey wasn’t calling to catch up with my life, he wanted me to be a part of his – his new MLM business that is.

The phone call gets strange – no, bizarre – when I realize there is another person on the call with the two of us. It was a classic, MLM 3-way prospecting call. Oh Boy! I have to say I was taken back, a bit offended and instantly felt intruded upon. But being the nice, polite, people-pleaser that I am, I listened to Casey’s sponsor talk about how well I would do at this business and how much money could be made. Oh Double Boy!

Now, here is the kicker…when I asked the name of the company neither Casey or Sponsor Stranger would answer me. My politeness was vanishing by the second. I tried again. This time asking the nature of the business. Again both said they could not tell me.  At this point I’m simply irritated. I ask pointedly, “You call me at my home, ask me to join your business, tell me how successful I will be – even though you don’t know me – but refuse to tell me the name or nature of the business? Are you kidding? Why would I even consider it if I don’t know what I am considering?” Casey’s up-line urged me to attend an opportunity meeting the next night to learn the specifics.

I hung up.

When you begin your network marketing business, chance are you will start with your warm market and that is OK as long as you don’t piss off your friends and family. Some pissing-off factors are but not limited to, begging your aunt to host a party at every family gathering, showing up unannounced at your father’s office and handing order forms to all of his employees, slipping sample packs into your cousin’s wedding programs and the biggest of them all – Offending your family’s and friends’ referrals because you acted like a pushy Patsy.

Your warm market (friends & family) are there for 3 reasons:

1.  They are guinea pigs. You need to practice your presentations in front of someone, sooooooo who better than your mom and your sister? You KNOW they will give you some honest feedback even if you don’t ask for it.

2.  You want your friends and family to try your products so they can give you personal testimonials. Do not pressure them to buy from you. If you pressure them, they will assume you will pressure their referrals too. DO NOT depend on friends and family to float your business. If you know that little secret upfront there is less chance you will get discouraged when your grandmother insists on buying competitor’s products instead of yours.

3.  After your warm market has heard your presentation and they have tried AND LIKED your products then you ask them to give you 5 referrals to call. Tell them what you are going to say to their friends and explain what you are going to do. It is important that you personally make the phone calls; do not depend on  your Cousin Lulu to call her friends first. She will be making a pity-call and she will WARN them of your impending call. Cousin Lulu may have the best intentions but you need to take control of your message. Your referrals need to establish a professional relationship with you from the beginning with no bias from cousin Lulu.

Let’s go beyond that 100 name list…

Do not call your referrals with a surprise 3-way call with your up line.

Here is a better example:

“Hi Susan, this is Sarah Wood calling do you have a quick second?
I understand you are a good friend of my Aunt Carolyn’s.
I’m not sure if she mentioned it to you but I have started my own home-based business
in order to send our kids to private school. (whatever your reason is)

Aunt Carolyn says you have really good taste &  that you would be
the perfect person to give me an opinion of my new product line.
Obviously Aunt Carolyn values your opinion and
I would love to have your personal testimonial to help get my business off the ground.

Could I drop off a catalog and a few product samples and then
schedule a 15 minute follow-up appointment with you?
Great! You are the best and this will be so helpful.
Can I stop by tomorrow to give you the information?”

You must be yourself.

You must be genuine.

You must have their best interest at heart.

Your call should be polite, professional and to the point.
